The Lighthouse & The Keep
Photos of The Lighthouse & The Keep
Island Bay - 10 minutes city centre, 10 minutes airport, 20 minutes ferry terminal. The Lighthouse is on the south coast and has views of the island, fishing boats in the bay, the beach and rocks, the far coastline, the open sea, the shipping and, on a clear day, the South Island. There are local shops and restaurants. The Lighthouse has a basic kitchen and bathroom on the first floor, the bedroom/sitting room on the middle floor and the lookout on the top. Romantic. If you are travelling early ask about the 'no-breakfast' option.
The Keep is a stone tower just 2 minutes from The Lighthouse. It has a lounge/basic kitchen on 1 level and a bed with ensuite on the next level. Also a spa bath in the bedroom. It is very cosy and has excellent views of the sea, especially in a storm. Stairs from the bedroom lead to a hatch which opens on to the roof.

"We Stayed at the Keep unfortunately for only one night. The place is everything and more. It is a true treasure to Wellington! We have decided that we have loved it so much we want to make it a regular thing. The location is relaxing and beautiful was peaceful to fall asleep to listening to the waves with a picturesque sunset to view out the large living area window whilst drinking Champayne and eating salmon. The whole ambience screams love it is warm and embracing and the touches that have gone into the place make it feel even more old worldy. It is a great place for you to feel like royalty and the breakfast supplied was absolutely superb. Thanks again Bruce will be in touch soon to book another night."
"We stayed at the Keep. This place was absolutely incredible. So relaxing and beautiful. We came on our honeymoon and it was perfect. We were sad to leave. Don't expect a tv."
"We celebrated our first wedding anniversary and what a unique and serene place to enjoy. The views were magnificent, the bed was so comfortable, the breakfast covered just about every choice you could think of. We highly recommend this to EVERYONE. What an expereince!! We want to try The Keep now for our 2nd anniversary......."
"We spent a most enjoyable and relaxing 3 nights here over the Christmas period. The lighthouse is one of the best places to relax and watch all the happenings in Island Bay. It has all facilities, plenty of food and very clean.Certianly value for money and excellent for special occasions"
"My partner and I stayed at The Lighthouse several years ago and I have been wanting to go back ever since! A truly unique B&B experience. I'm keen to try out The Keep next. :-)"
"When you have found the perfect person, and the perfect place to stay in Wellington. What more can you say but Wicked!!! We stayed there for my 50th Sept 18TH 2003. Wellington's south coast at it's best! GO YOU GOOD LIGHTHOUSE !!!"
"My husband and I spent only one night (unfortunately) at the Lighthouse and although it was a few years ago, it was just the most amazing experience. Been trying so hard to get back there ever since, but for some reason childrens' costs always seem to come first! One day, we will. We highly recommend this incredible experience to anyone. The host is fantastic and the view.... to die for! The world just disappears when you walk in the front door. Thanks Bruce."
"We had a delightful stay at the Lighthouse. Very comfortable bed and incredible views throughout. The kitchen is well stocked with no detail missed. A must stay for an unforgettable experience!"
"My husband and I were given a voucher to stay two nights at the light house by my family and it was the best experience. Lovely surroundings, beautiful views from the top of the lighthouse and the whole place to ourselves. One thing I would mention though, is there is no phone and not a very good mobile reception but who needs it! The best gift to receive, shows Wellington at it's best in any weather."
