"We very much enjoyed our stay at Kowhai Lodge and John and Sheila are excellent hosts. This is a very well thought out B&B property with beautiful grounds. It is very clean and tidy, comfortable and with minimal noise. We also very much enjoyed the breakfasts of bacon and eggs! We highly recommend this B&B."

"I stayed here previously and enjoyed it very much so this time it was an obvious choice. John and Sheila give a very warm welcome and it was a delight to catch up with them and enjoy again their hospitality and garden. The accommodation is spotless and comfortable and I have no hesitation in recommending Kowhai Lodge Sheena White"

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay late last year at Sheila and John's. To say they are the consummate welcoming and obliging hosts is an understatement! We 'lucked-in' too by arriving at Happy Hour on a Friday evening and were immediately invited to join them and their neighbours at the bar of John's hand-built, genuine atmosphere English pub. And even off that great start our stay continued to get better & better. Highly recommend Kowhai Lodge, and the warm, welcoming service provided by Sheila and John, as a great place to stay."

"Fantastic stay with these lovely people, very convenient for us we stayed one night. Both Sheila and John were great hosts, we even had a drink in the cute little English pub John built in there garden, which made our afternoon. We also had a lovely breakfast the morning we left. Not far to Cambridge or Hamilton. Would really recommend!! Joy, Don, Tracy & Murray"

"We thoroughly enjoyed our visit with Sheila and John. We stayed two nights in a very nice and very well equipped room with all the facilities we could think of. The breakfast was great and very tasty. Shiela invited us for a drink and was very helpful in all respects: we were allowed to use the washing mashine, we were able to use their kitchen to cook a light dinner, indeed, we felt thoroughly at home! - In addition, Kowhai Lodge has a major attraction right there in the back of the beautiful garden: A genuine (private) English pub which John has built himself!"

"I stayed this week at Kowhai Lodge - a return visit as I had enjoyed my stay there a few years ago. Sheila and John are very friendly and I enjoyed chatting with them over the delicious evening meal they kindly made for me, as well as over the lovely breakfast. The accommodation is excellent, very clean and comfortable, and I especially enjoy the garden and the peaceful environment. They generously also gave me a plant cutting which I had admired and some of their home made jam!"

"I recently had the pleasure of staying with John & Sheila, when visiting from Scotland. From the moment I arrived at their lovely home I was made welcome. After a few days travelling it was so peaceful to relax in the countryside, surrounded by a beautiful garden. The rooms were immaculate, food was delicious and the hosts were very friendly. If I am ever back over in your lovely country, I will be sure to pay a return visit. Many thanks."

Sheila and John were some welcoming. Everything was so clean. Bed was ver comfy. Nothing was a problem for them They drove us to the wedding venue and picked us up. On Sunday morning we had a lovely coked breakfast and toast in fine china. Thank you so much for everything. Would recommend Kowhai Lodge to anyone who needs somewhere to stay."

"Such a pleasant stay at Kowhai Lodge. The property is clean and the gardens are immaculate. The room was spacious with a large en-suite. The full breakfast - cereal, fruit, yogurt, juice, toast and a cooked breakfast, was one of the best we have had while travelling."

"Kowhai Lodge B&B is located on 4 acres out in the quiet countryside near Hamilton and Cambridge. It’s only 90 minutes from Auckland and close to the Waitomo Caves. Sheila & John built Kowhai with the intent of making it a B&B. The rooms are large, very comfortable and well appointed. All have private baths. We all enjoyed strolling their lush gardens complete with orchard, vegetable garden, chickens, and soon to be grape arbor. They also have many native New Zealand plants on their property. Sheila and John are wonderful, friendly, caring hosts. We felt welcome and right at home! Breakfasts are amazing – Sheila had French press coffee, orange juice, tea, cereals, plums & yogurt ready and waiting for us in the mornings while she fixed our huge cooked English breakfast consisting of farm fresh eggs (from the hens out back), toast, hash browns, bacon, and sausage, all served on beautiful china. You won’t go away hungry!! We spent 2 nights with Sheila & John and never ran out of things to talk about. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay."

"Hi Sheila (and John) Thank you for looking after us so well when we stayed with you. It is one of the friendliest places we have ever booked and with the added bonus of a great location and home cooked food made with your home grown produce. I wish there were more places like yours to stay at when we go traveling."

"I had the pleasure of staying here over the field days week, The hosts went beyond the call of duty to make my stay so relaxed and pleasant, With allowing me to set up training equipment in their shed for after work , to extra meals they were with out exception one of the most friendly and pleasant, obliging Band B that I have ever stayed at. To you a big thank you for every thing that you did"

John and Sheila are excellent hosts, friendly without being intrusive, and certainly make you feel welcome and very much at home. The accommodation is excellent, with each room having an ensuite, and immaculately presented. Breakfasts are wonderful - better than we have at home! Thanks again for a great stay."

"As per James review - was an awesome place to stay, totally loved the breakfast! Also the host's were fantastic."

Carolyn Chapman, 02/02/2011

"What a fantastic place, coupled with the serenity of the natural farm settings amongst fruit tress and beautiful garden vistas. This charm and freshness is complimented by the five star quality rooms with seperate ensutites, which are impecable maintained and astetically pleasing. This charm and elegance can only be beaten by the host and hostesses, (John and Shiela's), Old English charm and appeal. It is refreshing to be hosted and treated with such regalia and the ability of the hosts to make you feel at home in thier beautiful house. The inclusive breakfasts are to die for, with a three course breakfast, continental, toast, and then followed by an awesome and delicious English breakfast of Bacon, Sausage, eggs how you like, fried tomatoes and mushrooms, with orange juice on the side and/or a morning brew. Sheila and John are the perfect hosts and the experience of their kindness, professionality, far out do the impecable quality and charm the home itself has to offer. Rating of the quality of this home as a B&B AAA+ or 10\10+. I can't stop raving. My rating of the hosts, to be honest how do you rate such hostitallity when words can not sum up how great Sheila and John are. Go along and experience it for yourself and you will understand what I mean."
