Property Description

Struan Farm welcomes guests visiting or passing through the Waitomo area. We are located between Hamilton and New Plymouth approximately 10 km south of Piopio on New Zealand's North Island, and offer bed and breakfast farmstay accommodation in a scenic rural setting.

The farm, which remains a working sheep farm, has been in the Robertson family for over 60 years. It is well known locally for its established gardens and specimen trees, and is bordered by the Mangaotaki River, offering opportunities for trout fishing and kayaking.

Struan Farm is convenient for visits to Waitomo Caves and Hairy Feet Waitomo Hobbit Film Location, also day trips to Tongariro World Heritage Area. While the farm's walking tracks are accessible for most levels of fitness, we're also the perfect place to relax in a peaceful rural setting.

Specific dietary requirements can be catered for with advance notice. Other meals can also be arranged. Home grown and locally sourced food is offered whenever possible.

Accommodation options are all self-contained and include:
The Homestead: Set in an established garden with feature trees and native birds, the Homestead has a queen bedroom with high ceilings, high quality linens and garden views. The ensuite bathroom has a refurbished vintage bath. Other amenities include a second bathroom with shower, fully equipped kitchen, laundry, and large sitting room with heat pump and Sky TV. The Garden Cottage is an optional second bedroom adjacent to the Homestead, available to Homestead guests. Bathroom used is in the Homestead.

The Cottage: Situated amongst rolling green hills, The Cottage has queen, double and twin bedroom options, sleeping up to six people (one party). Amenities include high quality linens, refurbished vintage bath, equipped kitchen, laundry, and a wood burning stove with firewood in season.

Jim's Hut: With a quiet river outlook, Jim's Hut is convenient for trout fishing, walking and kayaking. Provided are two bunks (4 single beds, one party), a wood burning stove with firewood in season, and adjacent facilities with a solar heated shower, composting toilet and kitchen. If conditions are wet, access best by 4WD or a ride can be arranged.

Please note a 24 hour cancellation policy applies to all bookings. All accommodation is non-smoking.

We look forward to sharing our special place with you. Please contact us with any questions.
