"Was travelling Auckland to Wellington and return, and decided to stop overnight half-way. Found Mitredale on the ‘net, and booked in there for DBB. Much nicer than staying in a motel. With delicious dinners on both nights, and excellent continental breakfasts, there was no need to go searching for meals in the village. Not to mention the pleasure of lively conversation. I doubt i’ll be passing that way again, but if I am I’ll definitely try to book in again. Imagine it would be a great place for city-bred newly-weds to stay a night or so, and experience a bit of farm life. The turn off to Smith’s Road is not obvious at first, but if you are coming from Ohakune, it is the first road to the left past the electricity sub-station - then drive to the end of Smith’s Road and through the gate (closing it behind you if it is closed when you arrived) and up the hill and around the house to parking at the rear. Highly recommended. You will probably be greeted by a soppy old Labrador."

"When planning a trip to the Central North Island to do the Tongariro Crossing and some hunting I wondered how we would possibly find accommodations that would allow us to stay with two rifles and a dog. Mitredale Farmstay was the perfect solution . We had two nights with Diane and Audrey and nothing was a problem. Diane is a keen hunter herself so could safely store our guns and Mitredale includes a boarding kennel. Diane arranged a shuttle bus to take us to the start of the TC and bring us back. On top of solving those practicalities the hospitality and food were amazing. Gourmet dinners with a wonderful wine list and the entertaining company of some of Diane and Audrey's neighbours for insights into the local scene. Our visit included a tour of the farm on quad bikes which was a lot of fun and gave our German Shorthair plenty of exercise running alongside. I highly recommend Mitredale and hope to visit again."

"A lovely place to stay with Audrey and Di being most welcoming hosts. One night at this lovely location, with great accommodation, was not enough. Will stay again if in the area. Thank you both very much. Barbara Sullivan, 24/03/13"

"A return visit for us and one does not return unless happy. We had a wonderful experience here in 2010 and on our return in March 2013 found the same wonderful welcome from our hosts Di & Audrey. There have been some alterations which make life even more comfortable, a beautiful bathroom and a deck from which to gaze at the fantastic views. Then there is the new kitchen, to make me envious of, from which are produced the great meals, not to mention the wine. You will miss a wonderful experience it you do not include this location in your itinerary."

"We had a lovely experience staying with Di and Audrey over New Years. They are warm, friendly and down to earth. The dinner is recommended - a delicious 3 course meal with fresh home grown produce. The accommodation was clean and comfortable in a lovely rural setting. Peaceful and quiet but still close to town and Tongariro."

"What a find! This was by far the best B&B experience of our entire trip. Diane and Audrey are very welcoming, salt-of-the-Earth people who made us feel right at home. We opted for dinner and would highly recommend it to other travelers. Diane is a gourmet cook and wine expert; the three-course meal (including two wines) was exceptional! Di even shared her recipes. Lots of choices for walking just outside the door. The kitchen and guest bathroom, both new, are spacious, airy, and filled with light. Very relaxing and comfortable accommodation."
