Property Description

Welcome to our quality B&B/Homestay set in four acres on the Waitangi River. Stroll through our native bush & gardens, home to many New Zealand birds including Moreporks (NZ's native owl). You might like to feed our alpacas (Blackadder & TimTam ) or gather eggs from our free range hens. Our cat, Panpoot, is short-haired, rather timid and very gentle - he is not allowed in the guests rooms!

We offer a sumptuous breakfast (continental plus eggs, cheese, cold meats) in our dining room. Or you can ask for a continental breakfast on your deck. You are welcome to share our lounge with us and other guests. We can advise you on local places to dine.

We are both "Kiwi" born & bred and have traveled extensively throughout NZ, the Pacific and some parts of Europe. Please feel free to pick our brains about Northland and the rest of New Zealand. We can also book trips and activities for you.

Free WiFi is available throughout the house. Each room has independent FreeView channels and a DVD player (wide range of DVDs in our guest bookcase).

"Stayed for New Year's Eve 2012 and just like the rest of the reviews, the accommodation and hosts were fantastic, brilliant and outstanding. Paul was more than helpful with advising activities and much more. Unfortunately we could only stay one night but we will not think twice about joining them again. The hosts were very welcoming and the room/property was marvellous. Breakfast was also scrumcious. 10/10 and will recommend to all. It's 8 k's from Paihia but feels less. Thanks again to Paul & Barbara"

"Hi Barbara and Paul Just a quick note to say THANK YOU for a terrific stay (from your first Grab-A-Seat customers). We thoroughly enjoyed the beautifully presented Riverview room and you should be suitably proud of the your entire accommodation and service. Chris and I were "blown away" with the level of friendliness and attention to detail that you both presented during our stay on Monday night. Loved the views and outlook from the room - although the presentation of the accommodation took pride of place for us. The Alpacas (Tim Tam and Anzac) were gorgeous little pets too ! We would certainly recommend your B&B without any hesitation...and would love to stay with you again if we planned another trip to Paihia/Kerikeri areas. Kindest Regards – John & Chris (Howick)"

"We have stayed at Morepork on two occasions -in fact we were their first on line booking in 2007. Returned in April 2010 for a 3 day stay. Paul(Linty to his mates) and Barbara are two of the greatest hosts you will ever encounter - wonderful cooks, delightful onverationalist and ust down to earth folks. The accomodations are delightful and if you like early morning walks, Paul is your guide. You won't regret a stay in Morepork!!"

Michael and Barbara Andrews, 16/06/2010

"An absolutely fantastic B & B, we would highly recommend a stay here. Superb comfortable beds, quality linen, a lovely big room, great view, a balcony to sip a glass of wine and a huge bathroom. The house is lovely and the hosts even more so. They welcome you so readily and look after your every need. Breakfasts are superb, excellent cooks here - and suppers a delight, we strongly recommend everybody to eat in at least one night. If you do not stay at Morepork you are missing out on a huge treat - it is fabulous."

"Absolutely wonderful!"

Richard Palmer, 11/03/2010

"As with other correspondents, Morepork was our first B&B of a four week holiday in NZ in Feb 2010. Although the others were good, no-one else could match the warmth of welcome, quality of hospitality and the thoughtful provision of extras (eg bottle of ice in the morning to provide cool drinking water all day) that Paul "Linty" and Barbara provided. We arrived as guests and left as friends and will be telling all our friends that this is the place to stay in the Bay of Islands."

Richard and Karen Palmer - UK, 10/03/2010

"Morepork Lodge was our first accomodation in North Island and set a standard which was not surpassed in the three weeks we spent down under. Hospitallity from both Paul and his daughter was second to none, this despite the fact that Paul's Dad was in hospital, undergoing a serious operation at the time. The views, wonderful home, breakfasts, evening meals, knowledge, help, and trust were all superb. We would not hesitate to visit again, given the opportunity."

Paul and Veronica Sargent, 13/05/2009

"We could tell from our exchange of emails beforehand that this place was going to be something special. In our two memorable nights with them, Paul and Barbara immediately became our favorite Kiwis. They are exceptional hosts, setting us at ease and making us feel at home. They seem to have thought of the traveler's every need, and they went way above and beyond our expectations. The specially prepared dinner with them was outstanding, with memorable conversation and insights into the local area and culture. While our first trip to New Zealand was fast-paced, we left them with the desire to plan our next trip there around a relaxed, lengthy stay at Morepork, alternating local sightseeing with some relaxing time to soak up their fabulous view of the Waitangi River valley. If you're anywhere near Paihia or Kerikeri, don't pass up the chance to meet and stay with these wonderful people."

Dick & Jane Groff, 15/03/2009

"Very homely, luxurious, and friendly place to stay! Paul & Barbara are great hosts who can't do enough to help you enjoy your stay and your holiday. They are knowledgeable about other areas and things to do in New Zealand as well as what is happening nearby."

Julie & Richard Higgins, 01/02/2009

"What a wonderful place to stay!! Booked in for one night and stayed for six,sad to leave. Barbara and Paul are hosts without peer, nothing is too much trouble, joining us for walks and planning our sightseeing and culinary experiences in Paihia . Moorepork Lodge is an ideal location from which to travel to other locations in the Northland and the West coast and situated between Paihia and Kerikeri we found it very convenient. Barbara and Paul are great cooks, breakfasts, whatever you want and lamb racks for dinner ,delicious. Bed was brilliant and the country view over the river just beauitful. Thanks for a fabulous experience."
