"Beguiling Old World Charm August 4, 2013 My interest was triggered when I saw The Old Post Office featured in the NZ Herald July 2012 as one of a number of quirky places to stay. It was to be a perfect location for a 2 night stay in April to pursue my interests in geology and history of the Kaipara district. Deb and Kev were ideal hosts, down to earth, helpful and excellent company. Deb's local knowledge was invaluable and she was incredibly interesting to engage with and so enthusiastic about the local area through time. Quintessential hosts, they laid on all home comforts - so welcome after rambling around fossil sites, the Kauri museum and historical settlements of Pahi and Tinopai. The memorable lamb shanks, apple shortcake and home-made ice cream were perfect comfort food complimented by a cosy and a comfortable room . This visit truly whetted my appetite to delve deeper into the 'riddles of the Kaipara' and I have made arrangements for a longer stay at the quirky 'Old Post Office' - in my experience excellent value and the ideal base for relaxation and exploration."

"Margaret: (Nicknamed Gran by everyone in the family) came to stay for Easter. Boating, tramping or sports were out as Gran is not too steady on her feet but we thought if we head north we might squeeze in a kayak on the Kaipara Harbour. Accommodation: We booked accommodation at The Old Post Office B & B at Paparoa, about 1 ½ hrs from Auckland, more or less half way between the Matakohe Museum and the West Coast. Deb & Kev were brilliant hosts adapting to Gran’s needs regarding helping hand for steps, warmed bed, night light and porridge for breakfast. Gran chuckled all weekend at being treated like the Queen. Breakfast: We had service; homemade everything - muesli, yogurt, stewed fruit, bread and jams, yum! Tea, coffee, fruit juice and cookies plus, amongst the guests a lady of Welsh descent with a PHD talked more than Gran. This we have never witnessed before, Gran was dumbfounded. Wish we had taken a photo. Hosts: Deb and Kev were brilliant and after a tour of the garden and extensive facilities catering for both private and larger groups we did the standard photo shoot on front steps below The Old Post Office sign and headed out to explore the local golf course, Matakohe Museum and Kaipara Harbour. Trips: Good humoured teasing by the golf club manager that we would need golf clubs not kayaks for their course entertained the locals so it seems we have to go back, it is now a challenge. The Matakohe Museum was brilliant and the harbour great for kayaking. Recommend The Old Post Office B & B? Yes definitely; an affordable kiwi experience, great hosts and lots to do in the area. We will be taking our World Cup visitors who have travelled extensively to stay at The Old Paparoa Post Office. Greer"

"What a fantastic weekend! 12 of us filled the B&B for a ladies weekend away to blow off steam and wind down after a hectic time at work and we were looked after superbly. The rooms and bathrooms are decorated beautifully and there was plenty of space for all of us. Deb and Kev were such warm and inviting hosts, who went out of their way to make our trip something really special. On Sunday sitting in the garden reading books and watching the fantails play in the trees was just the relaxation we were looking for. We used the B&B as a base to explore the Kaipara and when we returned in the evening there was a hot delicious meal waiting for us, perfect. Also Deb's homemade bread for breakfast was a real treat. What amazing value for money and the Kaipara was stunning - we'll be back!"

"We visited the Old Post Office last night. The building itself breathes history, the furnishing with eye for detail, completes it. The new owners just moved in, about a couple of days ago. They are kind of sorting out things at the moment, finding their way around themselves. I bet some things have changed, since there are new owners. Overall we had a good stay, a nice warm bed, and a good breakfast."
